Compassionate, Evidence-Based Psychiatric Care

Matthew Laird is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and a Certified Autism Specialist (CAS) designation. He founded Headlight Mental Healthcare to provide thoughtful, individualized psychiatric services to patients across Arizona and Oregon — both in person and via telehealth.

Matthew's clinical approach is holistic and patient-centered. He integrates comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and evidence-based treatment planning tailored to each patient's unique history, goals, and biology. His practice is built on the belief that great psychiatric care requires time, attentiveness, and genuine collaboration with the people he serves.

He has specialized expertise in ADHD and autism spectrum evaluations using Creyos and standardized diagnostic tools, gender-affirming care and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) monitoring, trauma-informed treatment, and pharmacogenomic testing through GeneSight — helping identify which medications are most compatible with a patient's individual genetic profile.

Matthew is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), a member of the Neuroscience Education Institute (NEI), and holds NGLCC certification as an LGBTQ+ Business Enterprise. His practice proudly serves the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, and individuals from all backgrounds seeking affirming, high-quality psychiatric care.

We are not able to accept CareOregon at this time; however, we are able to accept OHP Open Card. If you currently have CareOregon and would like to transition to OHP Open Card for mental health services, please contact OHP directly — they are happy to walk you through the process.

Yes. We provide extensive diagnostic testing for both Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD using Creyos cognitive assessments and standardized clinical tools. Our evaluations are designed to guide a holistic, individualized treatment plan — not just produce a diagnosis.

Yes. We can have a GeneSight test kit sent overnight, and we would be glad to work with you to fully understand the results — including which medications are most compatible with your individual genetic profile. This can significantly reduce the trial-and-error process in finding the right psychiatric medication.

Both appointment types are available. Patients are free to choose whichever option works best for them — whether that is a telehealth visit from home or an in-person appointment at our Phoenix, AZ or Portland, OR offices. You may also switch between formats as your needs change.

Self-pay and cash pricing is best discussed directly with our staff, as rates may vary depending on the type of visit and your specific situation. Please give us a call or send us a message and we will be happy to provide that information.
